Breezy Friday Forecast

Cooler, drier air is filtering into our area just in time for the weekend. Hello, I'm Meteorologist, Lauren Whisenhunt.

A strong low pressure system brought more beneficial rain to central Alabama on Thursday. Between one and two inches of rain fell on our drought-stricken soil with this system as it moved across the Deep South. This precious precipitation puts our total for the month near 4.5 inches. At CBS-42, we officially recorded 4.31 inches of rain for the month of January. Granted, we still have a LONG way to go before our drought situation can be eliminated. But we are off to an impressive start with the amount of precipitation we've received for the first month of 2008.

We are starting off with morning with low clouds and temperatures ranging from the mid 30s to mid 40s. Westerly winds will usher in cooler, drier air back into central Alabama. Expect decreasing clouds along with breezy, westerly winds 5-15 mph. Be sure to grab a jacket as you head out the door because temperatures will be on the chilly side today with highs only in the mid 40s.

Tonight we will see the winds relax with temperatures dipping to the lower 30s under mostly clear skies.

The weekend looks milder with nice outdoor weather conditions especially for the first half of the weekend. Saturday we can expect mostly sunny skies with highs near 60 degrees. On Sunday, we bring a chance for rain back into the forecast with Sunday afternoon highs in the mid 60's.

Have a great weekend!
