Bitter Cold Start to 2008!

The Arctic Air is here and its time for you to bundle up. Hello, I'm Meteorologist, Lauren Whisenhunt.

LAKE WIND ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FROM 9AM UNTIL 4PM. WINDS CAN CAUSE ROUGH CHOP ON AREA LAKES. WINDS WILL BE BREEZY TODAY OUT OF THE NNW 10-20 MPH.

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON UNTIL 6PM. DEWPOINTS CURRENTLY IN THE SINGLE DIGITS. ALL OUTDOOR BURNING IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

HARD FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT UNTIL 10AM THURSDAY MORNING. HARD FREEZE WARNINGS ARE ISSUED WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL IN THE MID TEENS OR LOWER.

We are off to a very cold start Wednesday morning. However, it will not be the coldest start this week. Wind Chills today will range from the teens to low twenties when you factor in the breezy, NW winds. Definitely bundle up in your winter coat and don't forget your gloves.

The windy conditions will persist through the day as a strong Northwesterly Flow
continues to drive the cold air into the Deep South. Temperatures will drop into the Teens
Wednesday morning and will struggle to reach the mid 30's Wednesday afternoon. A Hard Freeze Warning goes into effect at Midnight tonight until 10am Thursday morning. This means that temperatures will be cold enough to cause pipes to burst. Take precautions to prevent this from occurring.

Tomorrow will be the coldest morning yet. Extremely Cold Temperatures can be expected.
Low Teens to Mid Teens are likely for morning temperatures. Wind Chills will be in the Single
Digits. Don't forget to protect your pipes, plants and pets!

Hopefully you had a safe New Year's Eve. And even more importantly, hopefully you will have
a safe 2008.
