Milder Air is on the Way!

Bundle up Friday morning. But a warm up is coming soon. Hello, I'm Chief Meteorologist, David Sawyer.

The Arctic chill left it's mark across central Alabama Thursday morning with Tuscaloosa tying a record low temperature of 15 degrees. Elsewhere, readings in the teens made for a very cold commute to work and school.

Fortunately, the Arctic air is moving out as we head into our weekend. Expect plenty of sunshine to warm our temperatures in the 20s Friday morning to the lower 50s by the afternoon hours.

Friday night will be cold but not as frigid as the last couple of nights. Lows will drop to the low to mid 30s by early Saturday morning.

For the weekend, the warming trend will continue with highs Saturday reaching the upper 50s under partly cloudy skies. It will be even milder on Sunday with temperatures in the mid 60s Sunday afternoon.

Our next chance of rain looks to arrive by Tuesday of next week. Unfortunately, we ended 2007 with a huge rain deficit. Central Alabama enters the New Year lacking between 25 and 35 inches of rainfall!

As a result, the exceptional drought continues as does the desperate hope for rain.
