HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hello, I'm Meteorologist, Lauren Whisenhunt.

A Dry Cold Front moved through Central Alabama during the overnight hours. The main change with the
Front was a shift in our winds and the much colder air that is moving into the area. We will see a gradual increase in our winds today, generally between 10-20 mph with even higher gusts of up to 30 mph. Expect mostly sunny skies today with daytime highs only in the mid to upper 40's along with breezy, NW winds. With this in mind the NWS has issued a Lake Wind Advisory today from 8am until Midnight.

Strong Cold Air Advection continues into Wednesday and will bring Arctic Air to the Deep
South. Teens will be common across Central Alabama Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Wednesday afternoon will be the coldest day with Highs only in the mid 30's. A Hard Freeze Watch is also in effect from Late Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

Now is the time to prepare for the extreme cold. Bring plants and animals indoors. Take steps
to protect outdoor pipes or pipes on exterior walls.

Hopefully you had a safe New Year's Eve. And may 2008 be your best year yet!
