Cloudy and Chilly Thursday Forecast

Low clouds will hang tough today along with chilly temperatures. Hello, I'm Meteorologist, Lauren Whisenhunt.

The area of low pressure that brought a mixture of rain, snow and sleet yesterday to Central Alabama will continue to move up the east coast today. Yesterday afternoon, the precipitation started off as sleet. Most precipitation that fell to the south of I-20 the was in the form of rain, with the exception of a few of our extreme eastern counties near Mount Cheaha. This is where reports of around one inch of snow and sleet occurred. These counties included parts of Clay, Calhoun, Blount, Randolph, Cleburne, and Cherokee County. Also parts of our northern counties in the CBS 42 viewing area (including the cities of Hamilton, Haleyville, Double Springs, Oneonta and Gadsden) picked up about a half inch of accumulation. However, since surface and soil temperatures remained above the freezing mark, there wasn't a huge issue as far as travel problems go with this system

For Today, we are left with mostly cloudy skies and chilly temperatures. Daytime highs will be in the mid to upper 40s with overnight lows near 38. Winds will once again become more NE today 5-10 mph.

Beginning tomorrow, all eyes will be focused once again to the northern Gulf of Mexico where yet another system is forecasted to develop. Also, a strong Arctic front will move across the state tomorrow night. The big question will be on the timing of both of these systems for the possibility for yet again another chance for wintry weather. Forecast models are showing some inconsistencies with this system as far as the track and timing. At this time I think we could see a mixture of rain and snow late Friday night into Saturday morning. Of course, stay with CBS 42 and we'll keep you posted!

Prepare to stay bundled up outside for the rest of the week!
