Nice Weather for the Weekend

Nice weather expected this weekend with temperatures returning to average. Hello, I'm Meteorologist, Lauren Whisenhunt

A strong cold front ran into the right ingredients to produce widespread soaking rains and a fair share of severe weather on Thursday. Damage assessments will continue in the storms' aftermath where significant wind damage occurred in Lamar County, for example. In an excessive drought situation like we have, every drop of rain is important. We accumulated around 1 inch of rain at the CBS 42 studios near downtown Birmingham.

Now that this cold front is well to the East of the CBS 42 viewing area, we can expect calmer weather today and cooler temperatures. Daytime highs will reach the mid 50s under mostly sunny skies and cool northwest winds between 5 and 10 mph.

Tonight, you'll need a heavier coat with temperatures dipping to the lower 30s by early Saturday morning.

The weekend will be cool with temperatures in the upper 50s on Saturday. On Sunday, another cold front will not have much moisture as it approaches central Alabama. However, it will bring a reinforcing shot of cold air to remind us that we are in the middle of winter.

Expect chilly weather back to work and school at the beginning of next week with daytime highs in the upper 40s and overnight lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
